80's HM/HR GUITAR - CHANGE OF PLAY STYLE (RHYTHM)
Guitar riff was a important factor for Hard Rock music since 60's bands such as CREAM ,THE WHO.
The riff was done a close up of more in 70's ,and you know, the great guitarists such as Jimmy Page of LED ZEPPELIN , Ritchie Blackmore of DEEP PURPLE / RAINBOW, and TONY IOMMI of BLACK SABBATH left many great riffs in 70s.
Then,HEAVY METAL in the beginning of 80's had more complicated style than 70's hard rock. BRIAN TATLER of DIAMOND HEAD was a pioneer. The many riffs in their debut album LIGHTNING TO THE NATIONS were very sharp and aggressive, and his rhythm playing with fertile ideas was combined by chord riff and single note riff.
It was not in Hard Rock era,. So, it was initiate us into the true charm of HEAVY METAL music . It is a famous story that BRIAN's style gave influence to METALLICA.
