Who: Diamond Head

It’s a hot one in Padova and Diamond Head know it. Last time they played Italy was in 2006 and as promised are back again for another electric show.

First things first. The Italian rock / metal scene is dying a slow death, just look at the Gods of Metal attendance figures over the last couple of years. With this in mind it doesn’t look like it has affected Tatler and crew one little bit.

Backing tape fades out and it’s straight in. This is NWOBHM at it’s best. No messing about. First song on the set list is one of songs off of the 2005 “All will be revealed” album with the track “Mine all Mine”. It is with this first song that the crowd, after about 30 seconds, realise these guys will not be taking prisoners and so duly all start pushing to the front to see what real brits do when abroad.

The songs don’t let up. Classic after classic with “Lightning to the Nations”, “Helpless”, “It’s Electric” and of course THE Diamond Head anthem “Am I Evil”. I would stop here and say it was a good night had by all in Italy. I haven’t said anything about the new songs though... We got treated to a couple of tracks from the forthcoming album and I have to say after hearing “This Planet and me” that this will be an album to watch. As the saying goes, it doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life, it only matters how you pick yourself up. If Diamond Head have been knocked down over the years, watch out for them at a venue near you. Not only are they getting back up but they are waiting to sonically knock ten bells of sh!t out of you with some of these new songs!
