Thin Lizzy Tour Blog: Glasgow

Good morning Ladies and Germms.

Here we are folks on our way up to Glasgow and we have Andrew with us on these three dates which is a great help...

We made our way up to Glasgow after picking Andrew up in Chesterfield.. We were feeling rested after the day off although the day seemed to fly by for me..Before I knew where I was Brian and Eddie were outside in Lollipop and we were on our way to Nick's house..
Mom always packs me a lunch for out of town shows and I feel like a school kid out on a day trip. I have sandwiches, crisps, fruit and water and there's always enough food for an army.. Thanks Mom...
Anyway, after Nick's I drove up to Chesterfield to pick Andrew up.
Once again the mood was festive and we were looking forward to the show. It was at the Glasgow Academy which was a standing show (yippee) and the last time there for us was on the successful Megadeth tour.. After loading in on what was a bitter, rainy Friday night we stated to set up..
The stage was smaller than last nights show and the stage was a little cramped... The show again was a concession show for merchandise meaning we couldn't sell our own merch. Thankfully Jason was to help selling the Thin Lizzy merch said he would take care of it for us however his priority was Thin Lizzy as the concessions people were on hand and we did lose some sales..We made our way after most shows to the merch stand to sign and help if we could,,however some of the venues were very militaryistic in there policing of the merch stand and it was difficult for us to meet and greet; as they want to get people out of the venue.

At this show we were going to have to eat before the show as the catering area was the other side of the building underneath the floor. I was not going to be looking forward to this...It's difficult for me to perform on a full stomach and I was hoping the snare drum didn't end up with my dinner all of it..mind you it would help with the dampening LOL
Malcolm Macmillan was there (he's the Author of the NWOBHM encyclopedia) nice guy and it was good for us to chat. This was one of the few times when the Lizzy crew and we were eating at the same-time .. I sat opposite John Sykes and he complimented me on my playing saying he had been listening to me play and liked what I did.. We tucked in to our food and discussed the set.
We were going to change the set and start with "Wild on the Street" this was going to be interesting as the intro tape and the intro to Am i Evil were worked out and in time with each other....
Show time was nearing and we were going through our personal pre-gig routines...I was not feeling the best after having just finished eating and now was warming up in the dressing room.

The intro tape rolled and as we took to the stage Nick said he'd forgot the intro to "Wild on the Street's" we quickly sang it for him and as the end of the intro neared I tried to get the tempo for Wild which was not the same speed as the intro,,,Well, I got the count sorted and counted us in. I went to hit the cymbal and totally missed the f*&^ing thing and for a second there was this chord that was ringing with no cymbal..
Everyone looked at me as to say "what the f*&^" thankfully I regained composure and blasted the intro in to which the band duly followed. Thankfully I don't think anybody noticed.. It was only a matter of seconds but felt like minutes...I had visions of the Milton Keynes show raising it's ugly head... Thankfully I went on to have a stormer of a show as did the band... I puked once and went through the vomiting motion many times as I was tasting the dinner which I had just eaten all through the show....
We heard from Nick's wife Anna that our entire set was on U-tube within an hour of the show..
Mic Roberts congratulated me on a good show and thanked us for eating before the show however he said he saw the vomit from the side of the stage and was not amused although he laughed his ass off and said he understood why I like to eat after a show.. He asked me if I was going to watch Tommy Alderidge's solo. I said I have seen him solo back with Pat Travers and Ozzy and that it was a great solo,, He said no this is new and he was totally blown away with it. Tommy was starting to suffer from the Lurgy quite badly and was struggling to play.. However as the cliché goes the show must go on.. And he played like a trooper..I watched his solo from the side with and was very impressed and also a little disappointed at the same time.
It was practically the same solo as he had done when I saw him some 20 years ago and I thought it would just be a little more fresh..His sound was fresh He was using the Yamaha sub mics on his kit which sounded great although I thought the sound was too much for Thin Lizzy.. They're not a Metal band and his sound was huge and very metalesque.

After waiting until the end of the show to collect our merchandise we said our farewells to everybody and headed for the travel lodge where we stayed on the Megadeth tour...
Another great show and vomit to go with it..

You gotta luv Rock and Roll..

Peace Karl
