Thin Lizzy Tour Blog: Birmingham Today we're at the Birmingham Academy.. With the show being a local only Brian and I were arriving in Lollipop. Ed was making his own way there as were Abbz and Nick. Andrew was coming down from Chesterfield with his new beau Cathy. She had seen us before at the Intake in Mansfield and was really excited to be at a big show. Nick's wife Anna was also coming along to the show..She had seen us here with Megadeth and it was good to see both of them... When Brian and I arrived the Thin Lizzy sound check was taking place.. They had decided to throw in a new tune and were rehearsing it for the show, although not all the band were on stage; it would be another 30-mins before that would take place. Andy Roberts showed us to the dressing room and told us what for dinner..As usual we made arrangements to eat after our set. The local crew started to unload the van for us and we arranged the gear it in-front of the stage ready to load it up on to the stage. Brian and I made our way to the merchandise kiosk and handed over the merch..Tonight's show was a concession deal.. We couldn't sell our own merch.. It was becoming pretty clear to see that Tommy Aldridge (Thin Lizzy drummer) was not feeling well along with a few members of the crew... The Lurgy had hit the show... I would later become a victim to this dreaded Lurgy. We decided to change the set from last nights show and added 'To the Devil his due' and dropped 'Skin on Skin'.. It felt good to be playing a standing venue..Last night's show felt odd. A great venue but to see so many people sitting down even while Thin Lizzy were playing did not look Rock and Roll ..Tonight's show was not sold out, but the lower floor was choc a block with Rockers and Metal heads by the time we hit the stage.. It's always good to play in-front of your home crowd but at the same time it can be a little nerve raking. The band was really playing well and as this tour was so unexpected we really wanted to enjoy the moment and that we did... After the show we all headed to eat..It was good to sit down together with Anna and Cathy.. We also were joined by Andy Roberts and his family for dinner.. After dinner we watched some of the Lizzy show and hung out with former Diamond Head Guitarist Floyd who had come along to see the band with his modelesque cousin Suzanne. It was good to see him although we probably spent more time looking at Suzanne.. He said the band sounded great and were very tight which was a nice compliment for us all. Also there was Steve Busfield a former Diamond Head manager.. Brian and I decided to leave after a few tunes. We said our good byes to the guys and made arrangements with everybody to meet at Brian's gaff for the drive to Cardiff tomorrow. Another great show and crowd.... Cardiff tomorrow... Peace. Karl |
