Hengelo Blog As always with life on the road, band members rise in their own time.. Mine is normally after five or six hours sleep.. This is due to my spine fusion... I have titanium in my lower spine and can only lie down for a short while. Once nearly everybody had risen and showered it was necessary to organize some food.. Gerjan had left us money to purchase food...The reason for us being in this place was due to Gerjan having a festival near by that he was promoting..and so in order for him to ferry us around we had to accommodate his schedule also. Not sure if any of you Diamond Heads have had the luxury of staying at a holiday camp but as camps go this was very nice...Well it was Dutch. Abbz, Nick, Andrew and myself head to the camp store for groceries. Seeing as we would also be staying at the camp tonight we bought enough food to last us a few days... Tea was one of the first items in the basket, followed by milk, sugar... Nick volunteered to cook omeletes for us all and so eggs, ham, cheese, peppers and onions and a variety of snacks were purchased.. We all headed back to the chalet for breakfast. Eddie was the last person to rise and looked like something from a Hammer Horror movie.. The chalet was fully equipped for us to cook..Thankfully..I think we would have looked right plonkers taking the food back or scouting the camp for utensils a frying pan and a toaster etc. Breakfast comprised of: Tea or coffee. Juice, cereal, fruit, donuts or cake, and an omelet with ham, peppers, onions or the works.. We sat down to eat whilst Nick served up his breakfast culinary delights. And what delights they were. Burnt toast, soggy cornflakes and weak tea...No just joking... I think we had one of the best breakfasts ever on tour. Thanks Nick... Ed appeared and immediately headed for the TV to see if there was any football or music on. And, would you Adam and Eve it there was, I mean what are the chances of that. Women's world cup soccer...England v USA needless to say Ed was asking me in his Villaesque tone to pick a team to support..Obviously with being English and also being an American citizen I was somewhat torn,,however the USA's women's team has won this competition before and England were the under dogs so we all shouted and cheered for England, although I don't think Abbz was to concerned.. The afternoon passed and we wondered around the campsite. We looked so out of place and we received quite a few awkward stares from vacationers... Gerjan told us he would pick us up around 4pm to take us to Hengelo it was another 60 minute plus drive to the venue and we all jumped in the school bus as the van was now being called and headed for the show. When we arrived at the Metropool Defender had just finished their sound check and had set up their gear to accommodate us which we greatly appreciated due to time constraints and also our late arrival due to a detour for road works all we had to do was re-arrange to drums. We quickly ran through a couple of songs and headed for Dinner where we met the lovely Sylvia, Sylvia was running the venue and made us feel very welcome and would not have looked out of place on any page of Maxim magazine.. Brunette, shapely physique, firm thighs, sorry I'm wondering... After Dinner we went for a roam around the town..There was a carnival in the centre of town with amusements and some very exciting rides and seeing as we had all just eaten we thought it prudent not to take part to avoid any puking on the locals. The town was very lively and full of families, and once again some very and I mean Very nice totty..Well it is Holland While looking at the local talent was inspiring we did have a show to do and headed back to the venue to warm up... The intro started to roll and we got into the band huddle said a few choice words such as "up the Villa" or words to that affect and headed to the stage.... We played a good show, however I don't think it was one of our better shows... After the show we headed back into the centre of town to catch the end of the festival but most of it had closed down and so we headed back to the venue to meet Gerjan as he had some business to take care of... Once Gerjan had finished his business we headed for the school bus and back to the holiday camp. Gerjan had to drop his girlfriend so it was very late again when we got back. The kettle was immediately put on for tea for those who wanted a brew and the rest of the copious amounts of beer that the Sexy Sylvia had garnished us with were almost totally consumed, along with sandwiches we made ourselves whilst we watched Dutch TV at 3 in the morning.. It's great to be in a band... Last show tomorrow in Goes... Peace from DHQ.. |
